๐Overview
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) is an infection and inflammation of the female upper genital tract, including the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. It is usually caused by ascending bacterial infections, often sexually transmitted. PID is a modern term; older or related terms include salpingitis and endometritis, but PID encompasses a broader spectrum of upper reproductive tract infections.
